Are you a fan?

James Dyson, the man who brought us the vacuum cleaner of the future, has a new device: the bladeless fan. It's already getting rave reviews, despite its $300+ price tag. No one sent me one (I guess because all the freebies now go to people who only blog), so I can't tell you how the thing blows, but I can at least offer up some videos. I also highly recommend going to the Dyson site, scrolling down and clicking on the "See the reactions" video. It's quite funny.

this looks to me like a perfect example of economic inefficiency in action. Dyson's new fan may or may not be an improvement over "blade" technology, but at eight to ten times the cost of a traditional fan, it makes no sense whatsoever.

Its a shame that Dyson doesn't apply his "genius" to finding ways to make technology more affordable, rather than just more fashionable.
