Now that's more like it (Publishers Weekly doesn't have a problem with endnotes)
I know, I know, I really should be blogging about something other than my stinkin' book reviews. But this is just too much to keep to myself. From the new Publishers Weekly (nine reviews down), a starred review that begins:
At the core of the current financial crisis has been the widely held assumption that markets behave rationally. Fox, Time magazine editor-at-large, isn't the first to bring scrutiny—or censure—to the conceit, but his analysis is singularly compelling, and the rare business history that reads like a thriller. ...
And ends:
A must-read for anyone interested in the markets, our economy or government, this dense but spellbinding work brings modern finance and economics to life.
Anyone interested in the markets, our economy or government, huh? That's a lot of people. Not nearly as many as are interested in American Idol, of course. But I'll take it.
So I shouldn't actually be required to work for the rest of the day, should I? I should just get to sip champagne and, you know, float.

Congratulations, Justin. Now, note that we only build up our gods in order for them to fall further and more quickly.

Endnotes over footnotes. Footnotes distract me. (I think publishers prefer endnotes because it is easier to typeset.) I am also a firm believer that if the note has to be super long, then it should have been in the text to begin with. I have no problems flipping back and forth; that's what post-its were made for.
I have given this some thought re: your book tour. How about speaking at academic/policy conferences? For obvious reasons, most econ conferences this year have been on the recession/ recovery/ what-went-wrong. And there is always someone who speaks on the historical aspect (in fact I am going to one tomorrow and there is a economics historian speaking). Don't know if that's your cup of tea or your intended audience though. -

@Brew: Yes, I definitely should make the conference rounds. But I think that will have to happen in the fall.

Such good reviews clearly mean that --since it's 6 PM Eastern, you should take the rest of the day off.

Glad to see you got that star
