Jay Carney, discomfited

Carney
Wow, life in Time's D.C. office is just so, well, thrilling. Here's the bureau chief reacting just minutes ago to Ana Marie Cox's admonition that he needs to post on Swampland more often. (Actually, he's reacting to me saying I'm about to take his picture with my cameraphone, but he reacted the same way to Ana about five seconds before.) The conflict! The glamor! And isn't it great that we can take pictures of each other, then sell ads against them?

    uh-oh....

jay is probably gonna have a hissy fit. Not because you took his picture, but because he's now busted for having The Weekly Standard and US News on the top of his disheveled desk, with publications like The Nation and Mother Jones nowhere in sight -- thus photographically confirming everyone's suspicions that he's just a right-wing tool.

So I see you got Joe Klein and Karen Tumulty to refer to your blog. Right on!

The huge piles of leftie mags were just out of the frame to the right, Paul. And yes, Dad: Me and my cameraphone have indeed hit the bigtime. I think I can retire now.

Gosh dude! Your a Young Global Leader?(TM) Impressive!

    from their website...

"The candidates are evaluated by a selection committee, which is chaired by Her Majesty Queen Rania of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan and includes eminent international media leaders."

so, is Rania as babelicious in real life as she is in her pictures?

oh, and I think you have a typo....You meant to say you're 38, cause YGLs have to be under 40.

    *****************

and not to put too fine a point on it, but there is something really cabally about an organization whose selection committee is made up of the owners of the worlds biggest media companies (except for Queen Babelicious) holding a three day meeting for "young global leaders" where almost everything is "off the record"

Not that I'm a big believer in massive conspiracies to control the media (and thus, the WORLD! Mwaahahahaha!), but still....

So now I've got to hide my copies of Swank and High Times next time you walk by my office? Thanks, Justin.
